The present invention relates to a power generator, which is particularly suitable for use as a range extender in electrically powered motor vehicles and which preferably has a rotary piston engine and in particular a rotary engine.
In the following the invention will be described with reference to a range extender with a rotary engine in which a substantially triangular-shaped hoop rotates on an eccentric shaft arranged in a motor housing. However, the invention is also applicable to a rotary engine with two, four or more piston corners and can generally also in rotary piston engines, which have a concentric in the housing rotating piston used. Furthermore, the invention can also be used in rotary piston engines with two, three or more juxtaposed pistons.
In the development of motor vehicles with electric drive, which for extending the range have a driven by an internal combustion engine generator (range extender), resulting in technical problems that had previously been of little importance in vehicle.
In motor vehicles, which are driven in a conventional manner by an internal combustion engine, a reciprocating engine is mechanically connected via a transmission with the drive wheels while driving. While driving, the reciprocating engine constantly emits noises and vibrations, which are essentially influenced by the load and in particular by the rotational speed, which are not perceived as disturbing in these motor vehicles by the driver since they are directly related to the driving speed.
In motor vehicles with electric drive and range extender, the internal combustion engine is usually started and stopped while driving without immediate action of the driver, preferably as a function of the battery state of charge. This is perceived by the driver as unpleasant.
The object of the invention is to provide an improved power generator that takes these circumstances into account.
This object is achieved by a device according to claim 1, the dependent subclaims relate to preferred developments of the invention.
In a power generating unit, which is designed in particular as a range extender for an electrically operated motor vehicle, wherein an internal combustion engine, preferably a rotary piston engine, and in particular a rotary engine and a generator are arranged in a housing, this object is achieved in that the housing designed is that the operating noise is acoustically shielded from the environment, and that the housing has at least two parts which are detachably connected to each other. This refinement has the advantage that the driver perceived vibration and noise behavior (NVH) of the internal combustion engine, which is independent of the driving condition of the motor vehicle, is improved.
The invention will be described with reference to an electric vehicle with a power generator, in particular for range extension. It should be noted that this presentation does not limit the application of the invention to such vehicles.
Under a power generator is in the context of the invention means a device in which chemically bound energy, preferably by an exothermic reaction, first in mechanical and then converted into electrical power. Preferably, an internal combustion engine with internal combustion and more preferably a reciprocating or rotary piston engine is used to convert the chemically bound energy into mechanical power. To convert this mechanical power into electrical power, an electromechanical energy converter is preferably used.
An electric vehicle is to be understood in the sense of the invention a motor vehicle, which is usually driven by at least one electric drive motor. Such an electric drive motor is preferably to be understood as an electromechanical energy converter, wherein electrical power can be converted into mechanical power by an electromechanical energy converter and vice versa. The electric power provided by the power generation unit is preferably used to extend the range of the electric vehicle.
A range extender in the sense of the invention means a device which has an internal combustion engine and an electromechanical energy converter. In this case, the internal combustion engine and the electromechanical energy converter preferably have substantially the same nominal power. To extend the range of the electric vehicle preferably chemically bound energy is converted into mechanical power in the internal combustion engine and preferably transmitted directly to the electromechanical energy converter. In this electromechanical energy converter, the mechanical power is converted into electrical power and is then preferably stored in a stored in an electrical energy storage device and / or to at least one electric drive motor.

Preferably, in the power generation unit, the cover housing part is fastened to the frame with fastening means. Alternatively, in the power generating unit, the cover housing part may be fixed to the internal combustion engine with mounting means. An advantage of this embodiment is that the number of components can be reduced.
Furthermore, in the power generation unit, the substantially vertically arranged frame elements whose upper ends may each be designed for attachment to the unit housing part. An advantage of this embodiment is that the installation and removal of the range extender can be simplified.
In addition, in the power generation unit, the unit housing part can be designed for direct or indirect connection to the motor vehicle via a suspension device.
In a preferred embodiment, the internal combustion engine of the range extender is a rotary piston engine. More preferably, this rotary piston machine is a rotary piston engine, which is usually referred to as Wankel engine. In a particularly preferred embodiment, the rotary piston engine has two rotary pistons. Such an internal combustion engine is characterized in particular by a particularly low-vibration running. Fig. 1 shows a perspective view of a power generator 1 with a range extender and a housing in an operational state. In this and the following embodiments, the Abdeckgehäuseteil is designed as a lower housing part and the unit housing part as the upper housing part. In a non-illustrated but also preferred embodiment, the upper housing part can be dismantled ausgestaitet as Ab-cover housing part and the lower housing part as a unit housing part. Fig. 1 shows a housing in which a lower housing part 3b is connected to an upper housing part 3a with fastening means 5. Fig. 2 shows a perspective view of the power generating unit 1 with the range extender and the housing in a maintenance state in which the lower housing part 3b is lowered and not connected to the upper housing part 3a. By lowering the housing lower part in the maintenance state, a quick access to an internal combustion engine 2 is made possible, so that the maintenance and service work on the range extender can be performed more easily. As shown in FIG. 2, the internal combustion engine 2 can be held in a frame 4, preferably movably mounted. In the present embodiment, the frame 4 has four substantially vertically arranged frame members.
